APIASF Continues Jump Start College Tour in College Park, Maryland

Washington, D.C. - October 20, 2017 - The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) will continue its 2017 Jump Start College Tour (JSCT) at the University of Maryland, College Park in College Park, Maryland, on October 21, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The event is part of a national series presented by AT&T, Target, and founding sponsor, Wells Fargo. Participants learn how to identify resources to support their pursuit of higher education, to anticipate career trends, and strengthen their money management skills.

Since 2014, APIASF has partnered with Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs), such as University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), to offer the Jump Start College Tour to thousands of college bound APIA students from across the country. In fall 2016, UMD had an APIA population of 16.4%, which is over double the APIA population of the state. Nationwide, AANAPISI colleges and universities enroll more than 40 percent of all APIA undergraduates and are usually placed in areas with high APIA populations.

"By partnering with the University of Maryland, College Park for our Jump Start College Tour, we are working directly with the local APIA community to provide scholarships and the knowledge necessary for success in higher education," said Neil Horikoshi, APIASF President and Executive Director. "We thank our sponsors, AT&T, Target, and our founding sponsor Wells Fargo, for supporting underserved APIA communities towards college success and strengthening AANAPISI colleges and universities to increase our collective impact."

"Wells Fargo is proud to support APIASF's Jump Start College Tour and its mission to increase access to higher education for promising Asian and Pacific Islander American students," said Georgette "Gigi" Dixon, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Wells Fargo. "Jump Start programs provide students with information that will help them succeed during their college years and beyond, and we are thrilled to continue this important relationship."

Next month, APIASF will continue the Jump Start College Tour in Atlanta, Georgia. For details about APIASF's events and to learn more about our scholarship programs and our work to strengthen communities, visit us at and follow APIASF on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Based in Washington, D.C., the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) is the nation's largest non-profit organization devoted to providing college scholarships for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (APIA). APIASF works to create opportunities for students to access, complete, and succeed after post-secondary education; thereby developing future leaders who will excel in their career, serve as role models in their communities, and will ultimately contribute to a vibrant America. Since 2003, APIASF has distributed more than $100 million in scholarships to deserving APIA students. APIASF manages three scholarship programs: APIASF's general scholarship, APIASF's AANAPISI scholarship, and the Gates Millennium Scholars/Asian Pacific Islander Americans funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
