AT&T and APIASF Announce Additional $45,000 in Support of Asian American and Pacific Islander College Access

Support Will Provide Scholarships and College Prep Workshops for College-Bound Youth and Families

WASHINGTON, DC (April 27, 2017) — The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF), the nation's largest non-profit provider of college scholarships to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs), and AT&T today announced $45,000 in scholarships and college prep for programs supporting AAPI college access.

To date, AT&T has contributed more than $700,000 in support of the AAPI community through APIASF's programs. AT&T's most recent contribution will support eight AT&T/APIASF Scholars in the 2017-2018 academic year as well as APIASF's Jump Start College Tour program, a series of day-long college preparatory workshops for college-bound students and their families. In 2017, the program is offered in partnership with the following campuses.

Since 2003, APIASF has provided a critical bridge to higher education by distributing over $110 million in scholarships to AAPI students. APIASF has supported students from cities in all 50 states, the U.S. Territories and the Freely Associated States, who represent all 48 ethnicities within the AAPI community. More than 50 percent of APIASF's scholarship recipients are the first in their families to attend college and nearly 70 percent come from families with incomes of $30,000 or less.

"APIASF is the nation's largest non-profit provider of college scholarships for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and AT&T is proud to collaborate with them since 2007," said Kathy McKim, AT&T Vice President and APIASF Board Member. "They have distributed more than $110 million in scholarships to more than 6,000 students across the U.S. and all Pacific Islands and continue to find new ways to support youth education. This year, we are excited about APIASF's new Jump Start College Tour and are pleased that AT&T's contribution is helping fund the college preparatory workshops for college-bound high school youth and their parents and families."

"AT&T's generous support will make a significant difference for some of the nation's most underserved students," said APIASF President & Executive Director Neil Horikoshi. "With many Asian American and Pacific Islander families facing financial barriers, the AT&T/APIASF Scholarship has the potential to be life-changing for students. More than scholarships, however, families need resources to support greater college access as they navigate the application process, college selection, and financial aid. Along with supporting scholarships, AT&T's contributions to our Jump Start College Tour will make a tremendous impact for families nationwide."
