APIASF Remembers Board Chairman Wellington Yu Chiu

March 8, 2016 — Dr. Wellington Yu Chiu, Board Member of the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF), passed away on March 5, 2016, after a sudden illness.

Dr. Chiu served as Managing Member of Chiu Capital LLC and Chiu Associates, LP. He was also an established entrepreneur and investor in various businesses. He was a committed supporter of all students and served on the Taylor University Board of Trustees. During his time on the APIASF Board of Directors, Dr. Chiu has been an unwavering voice for student success and educational equity for all communities.

Dr. Chiu earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Taylor University and later earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.

"Wellington was an inspiring, committed colleague who contributed so much to ensure the success of Asian and Pacific Islander American students across the nation," said Kimo Kippen, Chairman of APIASF's Board of Directors. "His passion will be missed and we express our sincerest thoughts and prayers to his family and friends."

"APIASF is saddened to hear the news of our supporter and advocate Wellington Chiu's sudden passing," said Neil Horikoshi, APIASF President & Executive Director. "Wellington has been an esteemed leader and champion for the needs of our community and who passionately worked to find ways to support the APIASF mission. We will all miss his leadership and send our support to Wellington's family and friends in memorializing his life."

Dr. Chiu is survived by his wife Eli, sons Daniel and David, and daughter Catherine (husband Andrew), as well as a granddaughter, Emma.
