2006 APIASF Gala
APIASF hosted the first "Today's Minds, Tomorrow's Future SM " Gala at the beautiful Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York City on September 14. Presenting sponsors included AT&T, Abercrombie & Fitch, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and the Asian McDonald's Operators Association (AMOA)/McDonald's USA. Norman Y. Mineta, former Secretary of Transportation and Commerce and Vice Chairman of Hill and Knowlton, received the "APIASF Inspiring Dreams Award" and Dr. William H. Gray, III, former U.S. Congressman and chairman of the Amani Group, received the "APIASF Excellence in Education" Award. Special certificates of recognition were presented to The Boston Consulting Group, for providing pro bono services related to APIASF's strategic plan and to the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) for hosting the Gates Millennium Scholars Program prior to APIASF. Entertainment was provided by Kenny Endo, master taiko drummer from Hawai’i; John Ryan, a 2006 APIASF scholarship recipient, and representatives from the Arya Dance Academy. More than 400 guests attended the gala. A silent auction featuring more than 100 items was held during the dinner and grossed more than $13,000.
